Artist Statement
As an artist who grew up in the New Orleans area, I gather inspiration
from the unique culture of the city. I love to walk around the
neighborhoods and find subjects for my paintings in the crooked streets,
curling wrought iron, tropical plants, and the architecture which ranges
from brightly painted shotgun houses to oak shaded mansions.
I bring this same enthusiasm to every subject I paint. Capturing these unique colors, texture, and details in watercolor is the form of art I enjoy most. The clarity of color is inherent in watercolor because of its purity and transparency.
In my current body of work, I explore naturally occurring repetition for its visual impact and vary the composition with careful color choice. Whether traveling Europe or simply driving down a local road, I observe my surroundings, hoping to discover that special combination of factors that can be turned into a painting which encapsulates the moment.
